Four AI tutors a parent in the U.S. can look at for a kid under 12, compared on subject, age, price and device. Prices are from each company's own page in October 2026 unless noted.
Khanmigo
- Subjects: math, science, coding, history and humanities, on top of Khan Academy's lessons.
- Ages: elementary school through college.
- Price: $4 a month or $44 a year for up to ten kids.
- Good to know: built to lead toward the answer. A parent can read the chat history. U.S. only.
Synthesis Tutor
- Subjects: math, covering "the standard K-5 math curriculum."
- Ages: 5 to 11.
- Price: one child, $45 a month or $300 a year. The family plan is listed at $119 a year. The page showed more than one figure for the family plan when we checked, so confirm at signup.
- Good to know: a seven-day free trial with no credit card. Runs on iPad, Android tablets and computers. On Trustpilot it had 4.4 out of 5 across 318 reviews in October 2026.
Ello
- Subjects: reading and math.
- Ages: 4 to 9.
- Price: free daily activities, with an optional paid upgrade. The site does not list the price.
- Good to know: Ello "listens, understands, and adapts to your child in real time." Available on iOS and Android.
Amira
- Subjects: reading.
- Price: sold to schools and districts, not to families.
- Good to know: if your kid's school uses it, ask the teacher for the home login.
AI reading tutors
Of the four, Ello and Amira are the reading tutors, and both work by listening to the kid read. Ello is the one a family can get on its own.
What to ask before you pay
Will my kid come back to it unasked? In Trustpilot reviews of Synthesis, the praise parents repeat is that the kid asks for it: "He asks daily (on his own)." Use the free trial to see whether that happens in your house.
How long will the content last? Some Synthesis reviewers reported that their kid finished the year's content in about three months. Pay monthly until you know your kid's pace.
Does it fit the subject you need? Three of these four cover one or two subjects. Only Khanmigo follows the whole school program.
